Computer Labs
The GateWay Community College Learning Center operates two computer labs, available for reservation by faculty for classroom use:
- Room CH2121, in the Center for Health and Career Education.
- Room MA1240, in the Instructional Building.
The GateWay faculty may utilize this lab for a variety of the following classes:
- Conduct a lesson or test using "Blackboard."
- Provide students with experience, using course- specific educational software.
- Build students’ problem-solving skills with computer and Web-based resources.
- Offer students hands-on use of technologies that engage them in critical evaluation of information.
- Acquaint students with multiple strategies for using technology to accomplish academic tasks.
In addition, this lab offers educational software that supplements textbooks or supports classroom work. Educational software is available in, but not limited to, math, biology, nutrition, medical terminology, Spanish, psychology, reading, writing skills, nursing, physics, ESL, English, chemistry, spelling, radiology, biology, respiratory care, ultrasound, and facility management.
These labs offer the following additional services:
- Access to internet connectivity for class research, projects, and E-mail.
- Wireless access - The MA1240 lab now has 24 laptops available for student use. (Or bring your own laptop!)
- Access to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Reserving a Computer Lab for Your Class
To reserve a lab for one of your class sessions, you may go to your employee portal and click onto the room reservation form, or you can use the following web site:

Study Skills Consultations
The GateWay faculty can request that a learning specialist meet one-on-one with their students to help them in the following areas:
- Evaluate current study habits and time management skills.
- Develop strategies to improve current study skills.
- Learn to effectively read textbooks, organize study time, and take effective notes.
- Develop test preparation and test-taking strategies.
- Discover individual natural learning preferences.
Usage Reports
The GateWay faculty can request a Learning Center student usage report that details the following:
- List students by class who have accessed Learning Center services.
- Lists resources used by individual students.
- Details time and date of visits by individual students on specific Learning Center services.

Study Skills Workshops for Classes
Let the Learning Center staff assist your students in learning how to study and retain information effectively. The following study and learning skills workshops can be presented to your class:
- Time Management
- Setting Learning Goals
- SQ3R: A Textbook Study Method
- Note Taking
- Memory Techniques
- Test Preparation and Test Taking
These workshops will help your students determine WHEN to study, WHAT to study, and HOW to study.
