What comprises GWCC Honors?
The Honors Experience
The Honors Experience is the same Honors that GWCC has had all along. It involves the student qualifying, and then either converting a class to an Honors (HO) class by doing a special project or taking HUM 190 (1 credit).
The Honors Program
The Honors Program allows the student to graduate from the Honors Program which is clearly indicated on the transcript in addition to the HO designation beside each Honors course. Additional responsibilities and privileges are required for students graduating from the Honors Program.
How are Honors courses different?
Your mentors are faculty members who are committed to excellence and offer modern, flexible methods of instruction. These small classes encourage lively classroom interaction. Fewer topics may be covered, but in greater depth. Independent projects allow the student to pursue a topic or area not covered in classes. Field trips and speakers play a role in the formal and informal learning that take place in Honors courses.
The goal of the Honors classes is not to simply do more work, but rather to provide students with a different type of experience that makes them active participants in the learning process.
